Light-Weight Computerized Radiography System

Distributed Story

Computed Radiography (CR) offers a multitude of productivity benefits over traditional analog or film-based systems, including compact digital format storage/archiving, ease of information sharing, lower cost of ownership (reusable digital media) and improved diagnostics (no loss of image quality).

Yet after nearly a decade, CR is still not widely available at all of the practices and locations that could benefit from converting to digital from messy, expensive film-based processing. Todayís CR systems, which are designed as centralized systems, are still too costly and too large for most locations. Even large radiology departments that have invested in centralized CR systems have to purchase and install two systems in order to provide redundancy, which adds to the cost and space required.

Centralized CR (C-CR)

With centralized CR systems, RTs waste time running back and forth from RAD exam rooms to central processing stations, then running back to reposition the patient and re-take the image if the view isn't correct, and repeating the process all over again. On a busy day, centralized CR systems will also be a prime bottleneck with several RTs waiting their turn to use the system.

The answer to the expense, workflow and productivity problems associated with centralized CR is Distributed CR (D-CR) ó the clinical breakthrough that brings high-quality digital x-ray images right into the RAD room.

Distributed CR (D-CR)

Orex is the first company to successfully develop and market high quality D-CR systems that provide image acquisition, QC and review in one compact solution. Orex D-CR provides all of the following benefits:

* Affordable to buy and own
* Improved diagnostics (the ability to enhance regions of interest and manipulate images with no loss of quality)
* More efficient workflow to handle more patients per day (no running around and bottlenecks compared to centralized CR)
* Built-in redundancy (for larger medical facilities with multiple D-CRs)
* Easy information sharing and storage (DICOM 3.0 compatible, supporting PACS and MiniPACS)

Orex D-CR addresses the full spectrum of clinical practices, including:

* Hospital Radiology departments
* Campus-wide hospital departments, e.g., ER, OR, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Imaging Centers etc.)
* Private Imaging Centers
* Clinics
* Specialists (e.g., Orthopedics, Podiatrists, Chiropractors, Dentists, Orthodontists, etc.)
* Rural or mobile x-ray units
* Off-shore or highly remote medical facilities (e.g., military bases, cruise ships, etc.)
* Other medical practitioners (e.g., Veterinarians
